This Skepchick post is a nice follow up to my earlier post questioning the proposed Vicodin ban. I didn’t realize that acetaminophen could be so dangerous - even though it was mentioned in the original article that I read.
The ban sounds like a good move, but I agree with Rebecca at Skepchic: The necessary pain-killing opioids need to be moved to a different schedule so that chronic pain sufferers don’t encounter new hurdles when trying to obtain the medications that work for them.
Interestingly, this whole issue does seem to have illuminated how many people are dependent on Vicodin or Percocet to some extent. I can’t be critical myself, because as already stated, I wouldn’t throw Vicodin out in the cold if it showed up on my doorstep. There’s just a lot more people taking Dr. House dosages than I thought. And they all read feminist websites.
