Seen on a flickr photo:
Please do not blog my pictures or print or use them in anyway without my permission. My pictures are “Copyrighted” and are marked “All Rights Reserved” Isn’t that a little harsh? “Do not blog my pictures”? Isn’t that a little like “don’t tell people you saw a cool photo of mine, don’t share the lovely images with your friends. In...

The Social Science of Raising Happy Kids -... →
Here’s a question: Are people even supposed to be happy, or just want to be happy? And further, what makes them think the primary goal should be having happy kids? I mean, yeah, that would be nice, but I think other things might actually be more important. After all, the “kid” isn’t the end-stage of the project. It’s the development stage. Time for happiness later,...

Dreams of Daring Fireball
I had a dream this weekend that Gruber posted a list of his favorite fonts. I printed out the list, and was going through Font Explorer making sure that I had activated the DF Recommendations. One of the fonts was absolutely beautiful, was in fact a whole typeface with infinite variations, weights, and heartbreakingly gorgeous initial caps. And I was delighted to see I already owned it. BUT IT...

Srsly
A co-worker just tried calling the art director. When he didn’t answer, she came into the art department to ask me if we’d added a certain thing to our website yet. I’m like, did you check our web page? She said she didn’t get an e-mail that the product had been added. Um yeah, it’s been added. Largest thing on our main page. Can’t miss it. Just look...

Someone left Cory Doctorow's safety off again. →
As the Macalope points out, once again, Cory’s leaping to battle without actually reading the article. Ready with the strikethrough tag, Cory?

No love Cory Doctorow
I just can’t stand that smug asshole. It’s like he’s not wrong, he’s just an asshole. And sometimes he’s in such a hurry to be an asshole he’s wrong. And his voice? Smug. 2/3 of his entries on BoingBoing? Self promotion. I think his strident tones and zealotry hurt his causes more than helping. Sorry. I don’t wish ill on the guy. I just. can’t....

MTA: A touch up
I’m going to go a little further on the MTA thing. By installing the gates, they’re resigning themselves to only sparing themselves half the loss over the next 20 years. I figure: They’re losing 5 million a year. Over 20 years, that’s 100 million. To install and maintain the gate system for 20 years will cost at least 50 million. (30 million to install + 1...

An End to the Free Ride on Trains in Los Angeles -... →
LA Metro supposedly loses $5 million/year to people not paying for tickets on the train and subway lines. It’s been mostly honor system up til now, but they’re going to install gates to catch the cheaters.   I’m going to apply my own Freakonomics to this issue and wonder: They only lose $5 million? Did they bother to ask themselves if it could be worse before deciding to try to...
